Bicycle Racing
Bicycle racing has seen a lot of popularity in recent years with racers such as Lance Armstrong overcoming so many setbacks in his life and his fight against cancer. The sport itself has also taken on a new life as many individuals begin to find that not only is bicycle racing a great way to get exercise, but it is also a great way to meet new people and share your love of cycling with others.

If you are new to bicycle racing, then you need to know that there are more than road bicycling races and opportunities available. In fact, bicycle racing comes in four forms: road, mountain, track, and cyclo-cross.

Road bicycle racing is the form that most people are familiar with. Road bicycle racing is popular worldwide, but even more so in Europe. Some of the most competitive countries include France, the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Spain and Italy. The sport is also popular in the US, Australia and Russia.

Mountain bicycle racing is broken down into five categories itself. These include cross country, downhill, freeride, dirt jump and street riding or trials. Cross country is the most popular form of mountain bicycle racing. It is also much more physically demanding and racers will train for years to compete at the national level.

Track racing, or velodrome racing, is another form of bicycle racing. These races occur on a velodrome arena that is designed for bicycle racing. The track is built to be conducive to bicycle racing in that the bikers are able to lean into their turns because the track is built with banks. These tracks also help to increase the speed of the racers. These races may take place both indoors and outdoors.

Cyclo-cross is a unique event in which riders must ride their bikes and travel by foot. These bicycle races are cross country races that include pavement, wooded trails, grass, steep hills and other obstacles that may require the rider to dismount.
